Aero cars aren’t usually my thing, but this is really pretty.

Very nice, though if (and only if) a car was fitted with an airbag steering wheel then is it not illegal to sell it unless reinstated? just curious, as it would fail and MOT as it currently is.

Guards Red is good yes. Especially when the paint is fresh. Ad mentions recently painted. So it could be a good un. But obviously it's an old car so you just don't know what's lurking underneath that shiny Red exterior. Although that steering wheel needs a mention. Hopefully this link of it works.

Mine had a Momo wheel without an airbag and has passed several MOT tests smile

And me - both my 996 have Momo.

But Julian isnt totally off.

I did have an airbag light on one year. That's a fail. My code reader can clear it. Problem with the resistor wiring hack.

Having an airbag warning light illuminated indicates a fault with the airbag or airbag electronics = MOT failure.

The fitment of a non-airbag steering wheel which does not display an airbag warning light should NOT result in an MOT failure, though according to many in PH there is now legislation in place which states that the fitment of a non-airbag steering wheel to a vehicle originally fitted with a steering wheel airbag by the manufacturer, should be classed as an MOT failure.
However my car car passed its MOT with a non-airbag wheel, and I asked specifically before booking the car in for its MOT, if I needed to refit the original wheel. I was told not.

P.S Edit to add. The fitment of this steering wheel :

would result in an MOT failure AND a custodial sentence solely because anyone that thinks that fitting such a monstrosity to a 996 is in any way acceptable, deserves the inconvenience of having to refit the original airbag wheel, and having to spend time peeling potatoes at his majesty's pleasure ...

While having a good laugh at this I just noticed the stick on button appendage thing. Oh my god. It didn’t occur to me you have no way to initiate the audible signal when you see another human you find attractive.

Those "stick on button appednage thing"s are pretty standard in the race versions of road going cars, btw...

Probably easier than requiring the horn on a stock Momo if my experience was anything to go by.

Pull the column out as far as it it will go (hard) and it will most likely regain its mojo (speaking from experience) smile

And this is why the very early cars have less bore score. The pistons were coated with something that is better at preventing it. I believe that means 97 and 98 and maybe some 99.
If thought bore scoring was a result of cooling issues?

Which is why the larger capacity engines suffer more (996 3.6 and 997 3.8)… and why it is almost always on the same cylinders on the left bank of the engine.

I’ve not heard of 3.4’s of any year suffering from bore score (not saying categorically it doesn’t happen, but if it does it’s very rare).
Mine did.

1999 C4 Tip, 173K miles, discovered scored this January.
175k miles has got to be approaching rebuild time on any sports car, hasn't it?

I certainly wouldn't expect a Porsche engine to run forever without any issues.
Yes, agree, but giving it a new lease of life regardless, hoping to get it back soon....then other 173K miles, fingers crossed...

I've recently seen a 996 several times parked on a route I frequent occasionally. Its a black coupe with I think oz wheels. I think there are some stickers on the rear quarter glass. So it clearly says enthusiastic owner. I was going to get a pic to ask if it's someone here but on my last pass the view was obscured by a white golf so I didn't get one. I will see if I can grab a pic next time I'm passing. Obviously I'm excited to see a 996 out in the wild even if it's only parked. I'm not sure yet if I'm brave enough to just knock on the guy's door because that's a whole different level from just polite stalking.
