I think I know the answer to this but...

- Classic car (1970) that was originally a UK car
- Stayed in the UK until 2005 when it was exported to Italy
- Currently registered in Italy but still has a UK registration that when entered into the DVLA shows as SORN (But with an export marker)

So my question is, does this car need re-importing as any other EU based car would? So re-registering with the DVLA in full and the 5% vat paying?

I'm imagining the answer is yes of course it does.... but wondered if anyone had done similar and had any concrete information (I've Googled it and there's not much about this scenario, and yes I could ring the DVLA but that would be very painful indeed).

Can't answer your question, but you might also be liable for VAT as well, so check the process very carefully before going ahead.
Over 30 years old is 5% VAT and 0% duty

Thanks Oliver, that's actually very useful - I clearly could have found that myself too!
