Hi guys,

I have been reading the forums for a while picking up bits on information here and there however now I have a question of my own. I have been set a task to improve the Jaguar 2.7 V6 diesel engine in the XF. The car will need to comply with the Euro 6 regulations and needs to improve in all areas of performance, in particular torque. I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what to do. We have looked into HCCI and some elements of advanced turbo chargers. The car does not have to be released for a few years yet so it could be technology not completely available yet.

Thanks for the help guys

Pete

Maybe you should just ask the experts at Jaguar who "tasked " you

Do you subscribe to 'Engine Technology International'? If not, try and get some.....good idea of the absolute latest tech and future ideas in there plus who's doing what about all sorts of power trains.

I believe there is a cutting edge new fuel out called petrol, simply convert it to run on that and your wishlist will be answered.

Wait a sec... you're asking us to help you develop an engine that will be used in a production Jaguar? Dude, if you aren't qualified or competent enough to do that yourself maybe you should hand in your notice and go work in Kwik Fit. Actually, bks to that, surely you have a massive team of talented people and resources most manufacturers can only dream of?

Or am I just misunderstanding your question?

You seem surprised that we have no ideas yet it is you who has been given this task! Surely they must have faith in you to come up with something and not something conjured up on a forum.
Who has given you this task? Jaguar themselves?

I think this might be a college or Uni project for the OP, as opposed to a Tata employee looking for some assistance wink

However I don't know a damn thing about engine architecture...

Jeez....

Funnily enough this is a not a Jaguar project. This is a project I have been set at university, I am in the early stages of a Mechanical Engineering degree. Just posted on here as I thought you guys may have some suggestions.

How about titanium aluminide turbine wheel in the charger, coated Mfs compressor wheels? How about new materials such as in713c in the engine components so that they can be run hotter???

Can't give all my secrets away though......

Perhaps sticking that info in your OP might have resulted in a better response!

Not very PH, but how about some electric motors to boost performance - would be interesting to integrate them to give an extra slug of torque when you need/want it.

How about turbo-compounding? I'd quite like to see that kind of technology be applied to road vehicles.
