Good Morning,

I previously had an ST220 Saloon which was great and am now looking for an estate up to approx £5500 - £6000 as a second car.

I have looked at BMW, MB, Vauxhall, Volvo etc and the best package seems to be the ST220 (it is the biggest really which is what we need). I have looked on Parkers to see what the prices are like (I know it is only a guide and these things are subjective) but these 2 seem over priced to me - I am sure, apart from me, that there is not a massive market for big petrol engine estates at present? I think they are good value - more reliable than a 4 pot diesel and cheaper initially so the petrol vs diesel economy debate is not valid.

ST220 Estates are RARE. I guess the rarity and condition of those two means they can ask that money.

They're not badly priced, I paid nearly the same for a 54-plate 1.8LX a year ago...

Having bought an ST220 about 6 weeks ago those prices look fair to me, the guides i checked all had quite low values attached to them.. They all seemed to swap hands at higher money. I guess something is worth what someone is prepared to pay.

One thing though if you're serious about buying, check the service history thoroughly! They need servicing (as you probably know having owned one) 1yr or 12k whichever comes first. I think at about 10 cars i looked at only 2 or 3 had correct servicing, plenty with missing stamps etc.

Jag X-Type 3.0 estate?

An improved, more powerful version of the ST220 engine and permanent AWD. Probably cheaper than the ST220 estate too.

^ I found that they weren't... Bit older with higher miles for more money. I'd of had one in a flash if they were similar money.

Parkers is often way below the true Market value of rarer or specialist models fine for run of the mill those examples look to be very nice spec low mileage for year hence the price looks ok

I am going to try for £5500 for the private sale (the one in blue) and see what happens.

Not that long ago I purchased a 60k miles 2003 /53 plate Audi A6 estate , 2.4 CVT,SE Sport with full service history for my sister . It set me back just a bit over 6k

I know, I know the image , but it drove much better than a 10 plate mondeo
