0-60 less then 6, 30mpg, £400 or less for a service...

Can it be done. Any kind of car, that'll hit 60 in less than 6 secs, do 30[ish] mpg on a COMBINED CYCLE and cost £400 or less for a MAJOR service?

An Elise will comfortably beat all of those figures as long as you're willing to use a specialist rather than a main dealer for servicing. A full cam belt service at a main dealer will probably cost you more than 400 quid, though.

How about the Mazda 6 MPS (as a more sensible option)? Think it might be marginally over 6secs to 60.

My current car is an E36 328, so I've ticked that box

I do have a soft spot for all the Renaultsport Clio's, but I feel they just might not have enough oomph!

How about the new Focus RS? 5.9 to 60, 30.5mpg (officially. wouldn't expect to get that regularly though).

Not sure on servicing costs, but it is a Ford so shouldn't be too bad.

S2000 will (& 30MPG+ when driven lightly, although that probably wont happen) Cheap to service, no cambelt to change, 54k is the major service.

make your selection based upon how much money you have to invest, and how quickly you'd like to lose your license.

Yup. And it'll easily beat 30mpg as well. Not that I care.
