Everyday things given stupid names

I pulled up at the lights today next to a group 4 securicor type van. The drivers door had "ESCAPE HATCH" marked on it. Surely it's just a door?

probably an inside joke. Did the sticker look official or something that someone who works there had stuck on.

Through a google search turns out they have an escape hatch in the roof.
