A pleasant surprise from an Insurance Quote
Discussion
As I'm moving at the end of the month I though it was about time I sorted out the change of address details for my insurance so called Admiral and gave them the new details. I was then hit by complete surprise when the guy on the end of the phone decided to tell me that my new Address will drop my annual multi car policy cost by £1000! At that kind of drop even if it goes up from the new price on renewal I'll still be better off than I am now, although I am still shocked by the disparity of the price between two address which are barely twenty five minutes drive away from each other!

For an address change, that's a massive shift! Nice one
If you don't mind me asking, what proportion of the actual premium is it? If you've got about fifteen cars totalling ten grand of premium on it then it's less impressive
Of course, it in effect knocks a third off the insurance for us so am Very very pleased.

Is your profile up to date? What are you insuring?
ETA I've just seen your reply, makes a bit more sense now. Even so though! Were you living in Steal My Car Street?
Would appear to be the case, I think the other halfs less than ideal previous two years have had the biggest effect more than anything (first accident saw a rise of £300 and then the write off gave us a leap up of nearly another £800), add to that the interest that is charged for monthly payout and it all adds up.

Now all I need though is to come in to some extra cash and thanks to the moving to a VASTLY better area I can justify selling the Saab and scratching my Alfa itch. Only real shame is that I'll probably be lucky to get only about £500 for the Saab

A pleasant suprise guessing game.
I decided to buy a motorbike (Havent ridden for a few years).
Bought a BMW R1150gs. TPFT. Kept outdoors. Mid 30s. Zero no claims. Zero points.
Guess how much?
Hmm Havn't a clue with bikes (I'm banned from having one by the other half, my mother and well pretty much everybody who knows me lol) but I'm going to say £200?I decided to buy a motorbike (Havent ridden for a few years).

Not dissing your cars......but...I cannot believe that premium.
I have a fleet policy too, covering the 5, less than you are paying for the 2. Are you really sre you are getting the best deal??

See it quite often actually, as you say its surprising the difference that 2 postcodes can make, (especially if moving to or from birmingham!).
One of my colleagues who lives in Leeds was complainig about the cost of his renewal. I put his address into a previous comparison site quote I'd done, everything else the same, and it went from the cheapest being £220 to the cheapest being £700. The companies changed too - the one that had been £220 dropped down the list and was over £800.GT03ROB said:

Oh I'm well aware that we've been paying over the odds (this is what happens when you let the other half handle the finances, especially when they have no concept of haggling, needless to say on renewal I'm now in charge of the insurance) but I should have also pointed out the policy does have a third newly qualified driver on it (my sister who has been living with us since August while she's been studying) so that also effects things, as well as the usual insurance variable of area, mileage, job and the fact that both the other half and I are male (no favourable one of you are a woman and thus lower risk discounts for us).

At the time though when the policy was taken out getting insurance in the first place for just my other half (who has no no claims and the incidents mentioned before hand) was generating quotes in excess of £1800 as it is on a Peugeot 206 Hdi of all things, so at the time It would be fair to say that the quote seemed at the time like excellent value.
Come June though once it's back down to just the two of us I'm also expecting (although wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't happen) another decrease in premium.

Oh and don't worry about dissing the cars, I'm well aware neither are anything special, hell I refer to the Merc as "That hateful black box" and the Saab as "The Scab"But with funds tight I made the best of what I could get, The Merc was picked up for a good price (4k on Finance, other halfs choice to buy that way, not mine), as was the Saab (£750, although I did of course make every mistake imaginable when buying it, IE first one I looked at, minimal Service History as previous owner to the guy I got it off had lost it etc etc etc, unfortunatly my heart overruled my head on that one as it's something I've always wanted)
