DVLA - How long until it comes back?

Before christmas i was stopped and given a ticket for 78 on the motorway (i wasn't doing anything wrong but thats another matter). I went to the police station and handed my licence as i couldn't be bothered with the hassle as it was only 3 points.
This was a week before christmas and i still haven't had either my photo-card or counterpart back and its getting rather annoying taking my passport out with me on nights out, especially when i forget it!
In this time i have sold a car, had a new one registered to me, reclaimed tax and received said cheque in the post (all within 3 weeks) yet my licence still hasn't been returned.
How much longer will i have to wait as its getting rather annoying now?
