About 90 mins outside Beijing lies a very strange museum indeed. The hotel concierge had never heard of it, so I pulled up a pic of the exterior on my blackberry and we eventually figured out its location, in a semi-rural light industrial estate. Since China had no private vehicles from 1949 to the liberalization of its markets, it was hard to imagine what would be there. However, a retired construction entrepreneur managed to collect a huge fleet of official limos old Russian Zils, Chaikas and Moskvitches, rocket launchers, ex Nazi ww3 BMW motorbikes, some old American stuff, and a Rolls Royce once owned by Lenin ( not Lennon), who had a number of them. The place was utterly deserted except for an elderly lady who took my money ,and then I had the place to myself. Outside, a car was being repaired in the open ,and various cars and trucks were parked in various stages of dereliction. The descriptions are not translated, so you have to guess for yourself. Evidently I could not identify all of the cars or trucks. It will take me a while to upload this lot. Doubtless someone in PH will be able to identify the more obscure cars:

Lenin's Ghost

Chou en Lai's limo....

Zis

Think this is a Chaika

Wow, great place ! Is that blue thing a Tatra ? Can't identify much else !
Nope. not a Tatra. There is a very unusual Skoda down in the military museum in Beijing but none here.

I think some Volga's, looks like a winged badge...

definitely some Gaz..

Citroen 2cv

and Chaika ( v shape on grill)

I would say 90 percent looks soviet..

most of the trucks outside are ZiS-150B with slated grill,..

Possible a Gaz..
There were certainly some Gaz military and quite possibly some of the saloons....here is a Gaz I saw in Moscow a few years ago. It was very unusual to see one still on the road

Nice find and great pics, thanks for sharing it with us. Pity it's so quiet and unpopular, places like this need to be preserved.
