Getting conflicting advice...!

Wheel is 15x6J.

Tyre is a 195/50 Toyo.
Tyre is going in the bin. Wheel is getting refurbed.

Do I attempt it at home or not?

What could possibly go wrong? Do you have a medical team on standby?

You can borrow the little levers from my bicycle puncture repair kit if that'll help...

Go to an independent tyre place, they will probably do it for a blue beer voucher, tops.

Not worth fking around at home with it IMO.

If the tyre is for the bin get some bolt cutters / snips for the beading and away you go.

I've seen it done with tyre levers. By the time it was done, we could have driven to the fitters, had it done, and been back again. It's not easy.

Dont waste your time when someone at a tyre place will most likely take it off for a fiver.

Angle grinder, and possibly fire.

Just make sure you film it for educational purposes...

Done it with that sort of tyre. You can't do it at home with low profile tyres but you just about can with that.

You need a bunch of clothes to protect your wheel. a couple of things to lever with, and a car.

You remove the valve in the wheel, lay the wheel down on the ground and then carefully drive the car over the tyre portion of the wheel. This will bust the seal and give you a levering point for a tyre iron. The rest is just knuckle skimming.

How much is £5 worth to you?

Are you doing the refurb? I'd have thought a refurb firm would expect to take the tyre off for you. Otherwise it's fairly straightforward, if quite hard work depending on the tyre. You can use a jack to pop the bead off.

Some refurbers don't take the tyre off, they just push it off the bead.

Years ago I "grinderetted" & sawed one off a 18" rim (rim was scrap)as a kind of challenge......

A lot of effort, dust, mess & more sticky rubber mess that I dragged indoors on my soles onto cream carpets - Not one of my better ideas !
