Ford Focus problem, any ideas?

I've got a rather annoying noise eminating from the front of the Focus (not the passenger seat ).
It's a rhythmic creaking noise and only apparent under braking and seems to come from underneath the front.
Initially I suspected a bit of dirt between pad and disc (building site close by and road covered in filth) but I've had them stripped down and cleaned up, with nothing to be seen.
The pads and discs are virtually new, having only been changed a couple of weeks ago and there is no judder / vibration under braking, just the noise.
It also only seems to do it once the car has warmed through or at least been driven for a few minutes.

Any ideas where else to begin looking? Bushes?

It's got just shy of 80k on it.

My old Focus used to squeak when it was cold, it was the belts at the front. Not sure what the noise you're hearing is, the Focus is a surprisingly noisey car. Clunky brake noises when they're cold, clonking suspension components, squeaky belt noises...just something you live with!

I have also already asked the OH if she would stop making that horrible squeaking noise as it was driving me mad

Nope. Checked that first. It's held on pretty tightly.

Have you checked the wheel bearings? Focuses do wear them out quite often.

all been done in the last 3000 miles.

Assuming you're braking with the car in gear, does it stop when you put your foot on the clutch?

Possibly a broken spring. The end snaps off and the spring reseats and it's very hard to spot without removing the spring. Other than that possibly the strut top mounts breaking up.

Nope, clutch in / clutch out it's still there.

Actually now I think about it, it doesn't do it when I've been reversing ie the front suspension is unloaded.
