Sporty Coupé 4WD or FR
Discussion
Trying to find something that will be a great cross country hoon machine. Really want a coupé and has to have proven upgrades available.
Impreza and Evo are a bit highly strung, would prefer more cylinders. Anything mid engined, unless fairly heavy, is gonna be too nervous. FWD would need to be something pretty special.
Anything you would recommend as a capable, grippy, hoon machine? Swaying towards 4WD purely for the not so great weather we get up here and would like something a little less edgy than the V6 i have at the minute.
Also has to be pretty quick, want to move the game on from the '2 but i'm not too interested in 0-60, simply all round grunt and hoonability. Currently ~200bhp/tonne and the same lb/ft per tonne.
RWD i've been looking at :
964 C2 (Exception to the FR rule because i love the look)
M3
T350C
Cerbera
Short list of 4WD cars so far :
911 C4
Audi TT
Impreza
Evo
Celica GT4
I'd love something V8 and RWD but what to go for that's not a TVR?
At the low end of the depreciation hammer would be nice. Budget is about £20k. Knowing me it won't stay standard for long so if something is a little underpowered, happy to look down the SC/Turbo route.
Feel like there must be something i've just not spotted yet in the classifieds, so hit me with your best shot.
Cheers,
Olie

I just went from a modded MR2 to a Boxster S, and while the Porsche isnt as fast, the drive is lovely on long journeys, and with the roof down its great. Its not FR but the storage is useful (two boots!) and the turn in has much more "bite" than the light, slightly mysterious front end on the MR2.

That's Mk2's for ya
Boxster is off the cards but did consider a Cayman. If i got a Cayman, i'd be wanting the 911 though so no point fecking about.
TC, i've driven plenty GT4's, they're good fun. Used to have an SS3 with the same suspension too, that handled brilliantly.
Last time i went through this in my head the best i came up with was a V8 Mx5. A reliable TVR if you will

Find yourself a nice late Audi S2 Coupe? Ticks most of the boxes - 4WD, Coupe, >4 cylinders, proven upgrade route (some silly power to be had from that engine!), only downside is that they are a financially ruinous. You might only spend 5k on the car but your remaining £15k will go down the tubes pretty quickly on upgrading it and fixing it.
