Super-Luxury Rangie To Get Geneva Debut

Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition: yours for £130k

Land Rover is planning to give the most luxurious - and expensive - Range Rover ever its debut at the Geneva motor show.

It's called the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition, and will be limited to just 500 units, with a choice of either the new 4.4-litre V8 turbodiesel 309bhp and 516lb ft, for stat fans) or the full-fat 5.0-litre supercharged petrol motor (503bhp but a 'mere' 461lb ft).

It's also expected to cost something in the region of £130k. For that you get a plushed-up interior, featuring two stand alone electric rear seats that 'enhance space and comfort for the rear passengers', a rear console extension, including a machined aluminium laptop table and drinks chiller. Both rear passengers also get their very own iPads, which are integrated into the backs of the front seats.

Oh, and the load space has also been lined with superyacht-inspired teak lining.

On the outside, tweaks include unique Roussillon Red or Otago Stone paintwork and unique 20in alloy wheels.

And if the Autobiography Ultimate Edition smacks of a run-out special, it probably is, because an all-new Rangie is due towards the end of next year, with the not-unambitious aims of bringing Bentley-chasing luxury top the model, and shaving off almost 500kg from the weight of the current car.

So essentially the Overfinch Holland and Holland, minus the grandeur in the boot and on horrendous alloys?

IMO, I think the current model is too out of date in terms of its efficiency, the underpinnings are now 10 years old and the car is as a result too heavy and lazy. The new 4.4TDV8 seeks to rectify that and to some degree it does, but a new car in 2012 with a weight reduction of at least 500 kg will make it more appealing. Maybe Range Rover should take some of the efforts from Jaguar with their XJ model range and try to make one with an all-aluminium construction.

All IMO of course.

Difficult ot imagine it fetching a penny more than an Autobiography after a few months.

That new front grille they introduced last year is horrendous bling. What was wrong with the old one?

Do you mean the Evoque? As it has input from Victoria B.

It looks like a WAG had input on this one.
I want one. And I'm no WAG.

It's perfect for where I live. My farming neighbour has a Defender, even that would do for me. But an RR is my aim. Even the couple who moved in recently have just traded their Mondeo for an RR, and they've only been here a few weeks!
Depreciation wouldn't bother me. It'd be a long term car, battered beyond belief and passed on through the family.

I like it. Kids would love it. Neighbours would worship it. Then my dogs would wreck it. Perfect.

I'm sure it will be lovely, but the name 'Autobiography Ultimate Edition' tells you exactly the type of person that will be buying it, and how it will be driven.

I don't blame Land Rover, at least they know their market.

and those ipads will be obsolete in,ooh, a month? I never understand why car interiors are modified to incorporate technology which will be out of date so rapidly.

I like that in a ridiculous, money-no-object kind of way. I would at least hope the iPads are top-of-the-range 64GB ones with 3G for that price, but I bet they're not.biggrin

I thought it was based on the second generation Range Rover shell from around 1995. It still has the same shape.

I know that in the 'real' world the TDV8 is the one to have ,but I'd have thought that this tasteful looking specimen would only be available as a petrol. The sort of customer willing to spend that sort of money will be more bothered about the smell/noise whilst its idling with the aircon on outside a restaurant than fuel costs.
