K20 engines...

What gearbox would you use?
It could be done. With enough money, anything can be done, but it wouldn't be easy. For an MX-5 you'd be better with the F20 from a S2000.
Also, what the f
k would be the point in taking the engine out your Civic, to put it in a MX-5 to go "Yeah, it can be done" then put the correct engines back in the respective cars?!

is it possible to K20 a mx5...
240 bhp rwd with reliabilty? what other cars can be K20'd? (engine in question is a ep3 civic type r engine)
would be a mental project! although id def put the engine back in my ep3 when iv finished with it and the mx5's engine back in the mx5
Pointless even for the sake of doing it when forced induction and various V8 conversions are well documented for this car240 bhp rwd with reliabilty? what other cars can be K20'd? (engine in question is a ep3 civic type r engine)

It'd be crap compared to the V8 conversion already popular for the car.240 bhp rwd with reliabilty? what other cars can be K20'd? (engine in question is a ep3 civic type r engine)

Well putting an engine that's used exclusively in FF cars, into a FR car, is always going to give you gearbox/prop shaft/diff issues.
What are you doing at uni?
business and operations management but iv got a 1 half hour gap till my next seminar hence im bored (done all my assignments and so on) What are you doing at uni?

How about this as a project then. Tr7 as they are cheap, tunable and a good platform. With a big engine bay. PSA 2.7 TDV6 in stock trim the TT makes 260hp I think. In a light weight sports car it'd be fast, reliable and great on fuel too. it doesnt have to be a mx-5 lol

It'd also sound s
t, and be horrible to drive due to the diesel power band, and very heavy. The K20 with it's gearbox on weighs about the same as the TDV6 with no 'box on.
Or it'd sound like a V6

You're an odd character! One minute you're slating people that drive diesel Golfs and advising everyone buys a V8, then the next, you want to fit a diesel V6 in a sports car.
Let me ask you, would you buy a A5 3.0TDi?
If you step back from the keyboard a sec and look at my point of view it's quite evident the reasoning. Let me ask you, would you buy a A5 3.0TDi?
I have a 3.5 RV8 powered TR7. Yet a tuned 2.7 TDV6 would make more power and more torque. So be faster more powerful and I suspect offer up 2-3 times better mpg. I suspect it'd weigh almost the same and handle the same. What's not to like?
As said I like the sound of a diesel engine and a Vee one with a proper set of pipes and no Cats I suspect would sound good on the move.
So really, what's not to like?
As for the A5 comment, well I'd not recommend the diesel anymore than the petrol when talking about 1000kg sports cars.

For a start 240bhp from a K20 isnt that cheap, you are looking at £1500-2k. So i would save all the hassle and get an S2000 with the F20c, 240bhp outta the box, already matched to a very good transmision.240 bhp rwd with reliabilty? what other cars can be K20'd? Lets be honest though, the 3.5 V8 was never up to much, and you're comparing an ancient engine design, with a modern on, hardly a fair comparison.
You're more than entitled to your opinion, but i'd much rather have a revvy 2.0 4 pot petrol, than a lardy diesel, and tbh i suspect most people on PH would agree, although i could be wrong.
Nice sidestep of the question btw.
Depends what you want though. I like revvy too, but old school sorts cars are more about grunt than revs. You're more than entitled to your opinion, but i'd much rather have a revvy 2.0 4 pot petrol, than a lardy diesel, and tbh i suspect most people on PH would agree, although i could be wrong.

Grunt that comes from lazy, large capacity, petrol engines. A TR7 fitted with an updated Rover V8 (TVR derived maybe) would be more in keeping with the car.If your going to retrofit a Landrover engine, stick with that old Buick. At the very least it sounds nice.
