Merc Superbowl Ad Celebrates 125 Years Of Mercedes

Oh Lord, won't you buy us a Mercedes-Benz...etc...

If you haven't yet heard that Mercedes-Benz is celebrating its 125th birthday this year, don't worry: you will. And no doubt you'll get fed up of hearing that fact before 2011 has drawn to a close.

From among the deluge of celebratory marketing wheezes comes this indulgent but rather enjoyable commercial, first screened during last night's Superbowl (some sort of American game, apparently).

It's a Night at the Museum/Nutcracker Suite-style ad, where all manner of Mercedes come to life to 'welcome' the latest models to the family. Cheesy, but enjoyable.

And there are cameo appearances from a lot of cracking Mercedes-Benzes. So many, in fact, that we'll award a 'Mystery Star Prize' to the person who can spot just how many different Mercedes models feature, and name them.*

*The mystery is that we don't know the answer and so won't be able to give out a prize. But go on, have a go anyway...

If any of you haven't been I can highly recommend a day at Mercedes-Benz World next to Brooklands. I put my partner, her sister and niece in a E63 for a few passenger laps and they loved it. They also have all the new ones and a huge variety of classics there too.

As a marketing exercise it must work well I'd walk out of there with a C63 wagon if I had the money smile

Cool ad, very Superbowl. I note they never got around to the "my friends all drive Porsches" in the lyrics hehe

On and the "one hundred twennyfive" grates without a conjunction, but then Americans are Americans...

V fun! Almost makes me want to take out a £60k finance deal from Oracle/Oraphis and buy a new one... but I won't, I'll carry on counting my pennies and saving up for an old one on the PH classifieds!

yes They've been talking about one for ages. I just don't know how Gull wing doors will work without a roof.

Poof Daddy driving an e class is only slightly more believable than M&M in a Chrysler 200 in the 'Imported from Detroit' ad, what next Snoopy the Doggy Dog in a Volvo?

Nice ad till the end hangar scene with the dodgy CAD-looking cars and the cheesy voice-over.

Doesn't stir the emotion as much as that awesome full-length Honda ad.

I like the look of the new C Class coupe, I think its being badged CLC(?) ... you can get a glimpse from 1.26 in the video. It shares the new front end and looks to be an AMG version if the front bumper is anything to go on?

New SLK looks better on the move too ...
