So how is your fuel saving coming on ?
Discussion
I keep hearing people moaning about fuel costs but not changing their habits, I spoke to a neighbour who was bemoaning it but still drove the 1/4 mile round trip to the paper shop !
I personally am lucky as I dont do much milage anyway but have been,
Working from home 1 day a week, can do more but will go stir crazy.
Cycle most of the rest of the week
Driving more economically, not driving ont he throttle all the time, trying to conserve motion, anticipating better, keeping speeds down and it is doing 27 mpg instead of 20 mpg.
Amazing how many people drive tot he same place as well, moan about the fuel costs but will not for love nor money consider other options, car sharing doesnt seem to happen.
Still, wouldnt get on a but if you paid me !

I floor it more so I arrive at my destination quicker, so I'm driving for less time and therefore saving fuel.
Make sure you stay on the throttle and then stamp on the brakes at the last possible moment, I remember Clarkson saying that braking is the worst thing you can do when he did his economy run, so brake late means your on the brakes for less time.obscene said:
Fuel saving is dull. Bring on poverty.

I've not made any concessions for fuel saving. This weekend I did 850 miles, that was 3 tanks of fuel & ~£270, but I enjoyed the drive (through Scotland at least).

I did think about slowing down on the way home but I'd rather not spend all day on the A9/A1.
I just spend less on other things.
I'll be switching from Sky to Freeview for example, saving about £25 a month, equivalent to about 10p a litre. Partly because i don't watch much TV, and partly because I have a theory that if Rupert Murdoch is the main victim of fuel prices being too high, I figure something might get done about it

I put on some sensible width touring tyres at the start of the year rather than the wide sticky things previously. So far a genuine 3mpg saved.
If I *really* need to save fuel I'll get a smaller car with a sensible engine but I suspect that many people will be riding scooters at that point. I figure I don't have any other vices so a big petrol engined car is my equivalent of drinking to excess, eating to excess, smoking, going to the gym etc.

Yep sold my 1.6 Saxo VTR to replace it with a 2.8td 4x4 Delica L400 but I'm still giving myself the same monthly budget for Petrol/Diesel as I was in the Saxo, just have to ride my bike to work two or three times a week. The other bonus with this is with the ammount of the journey I can cut by riding a bike I'm getting to work earlier than if I drive, and getting to work feeling awake rather than that just got up feeling I usually have on a morning, and feeling loads fitter!!!
I am trying my best but so far have saved no fuel whatsoever - I have a 68 mile commute (34 each way) to Leeds over the M62.
It goes something like this....
I go out of the front door down to the garage with the best will in the world to not waste unfeasible amounts of money.
I look at the missus C220 CDi Diseasel coupe.... 50mpg. She doesn't need it mostly - she works from home.
I look at my SL500.
I think to myself "f
k it" and take the SL.
I am a money wasting idiot
