Bought a FLI active sub from halfords today.

Installed correctly - I am sure of it

The sub has a status light green for ok, red somethings up etc

Now I wired the switch cable to a fuse in the fusebourd as i did not want to start hacking at the headunit etc is it not working because its not wired to the head unit?! I cant see why though as its only an on/off switch...

Brand new JVC head unit too

Any ideas?

I'm not sure I follow you, are you meaning you connected the small blue wire via a switch to the fuse? If so this is your problem I think, this needs to be connected to the remote cable coming from the head unit. Also, is the head unit able to take subs? Many people don't realise some aren't.

Also, anything I have mentioned about electrics may be complete tosh, I'm thinking out loud.

If you have correctly connected the Power wire (probably red), the earth wire (probably black or brown) and the trigger wire (more than likely blue) and the input cables from the "line out" on the rear of the head unit then it should work.

If one or more is not right then it will not work.

Some headunits need the trigger wire output turning on in a menu, normally its labelled "AUX ON/OFF" you need it to "on" obviously.

Right, the only thing I have done differantly from the instructions is wire the switch cable to the ignition fuse in the fuse bourd, could that be the problem

I cant see how though becase the power is on etc and everthing is ok according to the green light...

If its on then its on.

It might be the audio signal is not coming out of the headunit, is the aux output switched on ?

Blue/switch wire should be live when radio/ ignition is on, if that and the other wires are correct then it should work

The Rca leads/ speakers in some way should be. I'm just wondering how it gets the sound if you haven't had the head unit out. The unit could be live and just getting no input. No idea if you have that in hand or not it just wasn't mentioned in your post.

Like you and others have said the relay/ trigger wire should not matter. As long as that is there when you trigger a live feed on that wire it will work. That is subject to the main 12v feed and earth being ok too.

Where is the signal coming from?
Where is the power for the sub coming from?
Where is the feed for the 'remote'(blue) wire coming from?

And didn't I tell you about 3 days ago NOT to rush out to Halfords and buy some st that doesn't meet your needs?!

And if your earth is connected but not a strong enough connection then the amp will light up but not actually work, i always scrap the paint away where ever i connect a earth.

Does your head unit have more than one set of RCA connections? If so what ones have you plugged the leads into?
