After spending a bit of time looking at car adverts I notice that many of them say "lady owner".
This got me thinking. I think I would be less inclined to look at a car that said this in the advert.

Reasons I would be put off:

Most women drive with a total lack of respect for their car, bumping up and down kurbs etc...
Would have been used in most cases for the relatively short school or supermarket run
Just generally been abused and not cared for

I guess there are exceptions and there are female car lovers but I reckon they are very few.

What do fellow ph'ers think?

If anything, It would only help it sell to another female I would have thought.

Hence avoiding something that has been 'thrashed' by a bloke. wink

It's irrelevant information really, I've gone to look at cars with this in the ad and they've turned out to be crocks.

I had a lift from a woman the other day; she was so engrossed in our conversation that, even though the engine was cold, she hit 5000rpm before remembering to change into second. irked Statistically-speaking, this clearly demonstrates that 100% of women are rubbish drivers. thumbup

No it doesn't. I've got nothing against women drivers, I just think that in this day and age it's pretty arcane to suggest that 100% of women drive the same way (and this is somehow positive compared to the way 100% of men drive).

'Club Member owner' is more likely to get me buying as it's an indication that the car's been looked after and cared for.

I do wonder whether the 'lady owner' tag is some kind of hangover from the second-hand car dealers of the '50s/'60s/'70s, who would probably be going off the assumption that all women were housewives who would take their car out for a sedate potter to the shops of an afternoon at a time when most second-hand stuff was shagged-out by 50k miles and couldn't maintain motorway speeds.

Why do they always feel the need to natter constantly whilst in a car together? Driving comes a very poor second to the conversation IME.

it would put me of buying a car because if most women are like my girlfriend and her frends, none of them have a clue whats going on under the bonnet, never ever checked the oil, antifreeze or anything else for that matter.

my mrs doesn't give a fk about our cars, never checks anything or cleans anything. Lady owners generally = total lack of care

This.
Indeed. I think now I rather buy off 'one car enthusiast'. Without being sexist, and being sacked by Sky, most women (not all) have little mechanical sympathy and therefore would cause more damage to the car internals over-time.

Saying this, some blokes are just as bad hence I'd rather buy from an enthusiast - who may have taken the car for some spirited drives but has also looked after it suitably.

This really. Trying to teach my gf basic car care before she passes her test and credit to her she's actually taken it all in. smile

On the other hand, a lot of other girls/women I know just don't know how to look after a car. Although, the same can be said about many men now confused So yes, 'club member' owned is a better bet imo smile

What if the previous lady owner was Sabine Schmitz?

Put it this way, my old Gran gets in her car and accelerates up the road from cold and only changes gear "when the engine starts making a funny noise" ... at about 7,001 rpm round to 8,500 …

I wouldn’t want to buy her old car.

The local garage have replaced gearboxes and all sorts, and turn a blind eye to her habits because she buys a new fully-loaded car regularly (or when the old one has seized up). She pays top whack for them, and they earn loads on the subsequent warranty claims. She wont listen to advice from her grand kids either .. rolleyes

However ... a mate is into old shape Scirocco's big time, and hes just unearthed a vintage 1989 one with 'one lady owner' and I've just seen it. Its in time warp condition, with a mere 29k on the clock yet 20+ yearly services at a main dealer and he paid pocket money for it ..

It wouldn't say "previous lady owner"; it would say "Last owner Sabine Schmitz" and command a 10% premium.

Agreed, we repo`d a car from a nursery the other day - a kia, it needed 4 litres of oil in it before reaching the max on the dip stick

"Club member owner" to me says "Bodged at home with some half baked fixes by someone with an inflated view of their mechanical competence".
