Why have autogas prices rocketed?
Discussion
Gas used to be C.45ppl about 5 years ago. Now it is over 80ppl.
Is it just the govt taking the piss as per or have gas prices rocketed, if so, why?
I don't have a gas car or anything, i just can't get over how much the 'cheap' option costs nowadays.
Filling the car up is starting to give me a tight chest, it isn't the price per se, but just the sheer rob doggery of it all.
And breathe...

Is 80ppl really the cheapest you can find? There's a BP down the road from me selling it for 71p, and that's a relatively expensive service station. In regards to the price jumping up so much, is that not too be expected? As with all fuel (petrol, diesel etc) the price has gone up, and the 2.5 ish pence extra for VAT isn't helping. The prices are always going to go up as fuel becomes more expensive, and as far as I am aware it's also liable for the 1p tax rises the government usually brings in each year.
It usually seems to be just over half the price of petrol, which it still is in most places at the moment.

IIRC, it wasn't subsidised; but the government did pledge to keep the duty on it low for a number of years.... but that was a number of years ago now. So there's more duty added now. Seems like it'll still be considerably cheaper than petrol for now, but there's no long term promises

I'm fairly certain duty was always going to be added (in the form of the yearly 1/2p rises)? Plus, there's some form of EU directive or similar that means 2 years notice will have to be given before the duty can be hoiked up any reasonable amountIt was never subsidised as such, they just put less duty on it, there was a pledge from a previous government that the duty could only rise by something like 1p over any duty increase put on petrol, meaning that in about 20 years it could cost the same. In reality it is still 50-60 pence a litre cheaper than petrol so the savings are still there it is just a smaller % if that makes sense.
