OK I know this has come up before but it's worth noting.
Just received my renewal notice (£103) Checked against the online price and yes it was twenty quid cheaper on line and the online quote included the 'At Home' cover which my original membership din not include.

So I called them up and after a while listing to the 'on hold' music I talked to a very nice man (oh wait that's the other lot). Anyway he was able to match the on line price and level of cover. Thus saving 20 beer tokens and if the car won't start at home I covered. smile

Still, it's a shame that existing customer are treated in this way though. Do the AA and others act in this way?

I'm with AA and my renewal went up from £10pm to £15pm. I checked online and can get it cheaper too.

Can't be arsed to sort it out at the moment though.

I had my renewal due with one of the large breakdown companies just before Christmas. After 19 years of continuous membership and not having the need to use them for at least the last 10 years, I e-mailed them asking if they would match the online price (£79 as opposed to £93 renewal).

I got no reply, so I cancelled my direct debit, let my membership lapse for a day and joined as a new member with a single debit card payment, all for £79.

It gets better in that a referral website had a cashback offer on, £42 cashback on policies over £75, given that new membership is £79, they really didn't think that one through.

The final result as a new member was exactly the same cover for £37 insted of the £93 rennewal.

Nice one. I'll watch out for that next year.

I've never bought breakdown cover before... Hadn't realised it was so expensive!
