Hi im a new member on here, i know a couple of guys who come one here and being a petrol head i got told about this so Hi, im looking at replacing my Audi A4 1.9 tDi 130.
Possbily looking at getting a 2007 Renault Megan, RenaultSport 175 2.0 DCi. Looked online and them seem fairly sound and sturdy and the faults from the earlier ones, valves jamming open etc, seem fixed so i was just wandering if people know what they are like if people have one/have had one etc? the pro's and con's if any? looking at one tommorrow so quick replies would be greatly appriciated.

The RenaultSport bit in a diesel just means it's got absurdedly low profile tyres on too large wheels and too stiff springs. It'll ride like st.
And, being French, it will break down. Remember where Alfa Romeo were in 1990 - Renault / Citroen / Peugeot have regressed to the same stage....

haha not go replies then. Alas i have a long commute and the way the b*$tards are upping the prices of fuel i need to get the extra miles from a diesel.
Are they really that bad? ive done a fair bit of researching but they are mainly reviews which say reliability has kinda been fixed. but i wanted someone who has owned one to see what they are like over time etc

I've had two Renaults and we've had a few others in the family and put quite a few miles on both without any faults. Similarly, some people at work have had them for years and not had any issues, whilst some have had plenty.
Buy a good one, it'll serve you well. Buy a bad one, lube up and find a decent indy.
I will say one thing, the build quality IS definitely making massive improvements. My Clio was a 99 and very rattly, my mums Clio was a 2004 and noticeably less rattly, my current Twingo is a 2009 and is yet to rattle, even with suspension hard enough to make chiropractors rub their hands together with glee.
I would imagine a lot of the nay-sayers have never driven, let alone owned one and are just preaching the same old "It's French, it's st" mantra.

Making any diesel sporty seems to involve replacing springs and dampers with scaffolding, unless you try the fabia VRS which is so soggy the front end turns in just after the apex of a fast corner.
Stick with something like the A4 if you have a long commute and buy a car with handling for fun.
HTH.

Couldn't agree more, reliability and build quality is coming on in leaps and bounds. Renault are producing some brilliant cars now compared to those of 10 years or so ago. Not sure I'd buy an old one, but brand new definitely.Buy a good one, it'll serve you well. Buy a bad one, lube up and find a decent indy.
