"The death of internal combustion"
Discussion
Just an article I came across...
Suck, squeeze, bang, bust; the death of internal combustion
I think alot of what he says is true, though I don't know how soon as engines are always getting more efficient.
Thoughts?

As has been discussed on here before, ICE efficiency is up against the laws of physics - with a steel block, the theoretical limit is about 37% efficient (see the Carnot Cycle) and even that's not really achievable if the engine is driving the wheels directly. Advances can improve other areas of a car's economy (aerodynamics, weight reduction, regenerative braking, etc.) but those would typically equally apply to cars with any other method of propulsion.
I think internal combustion engines probably have some way to go yet, if nothing else because there isn't really a viable alternative yet for some applications, but I doubt they'll be directly driving the wheels for very long and ultimately I suppose they'll vanish altogether.
