Revealed: Lamborghini LP700-4 On The Go

New V12 gets all swirly ahead of the Murcielago replacement's Geneva show debut

This spy shot of the Murcielago replacement - the LP700-4 - has landed in the PH inbox ahead of the new V12's official unveiling at the Geneva motor show in a few weeks time.

Well, we say spy shot, but it does seem unlikely this was a covert operation because, although we don't know the exact provenance of the picture, the driver of the Lamborghini could hardly have failed to notice the photographer hanging out of the back of the car in front of him while driving down a private runway...

Still, whatever you call the picture, it's our clearest view yet of the successor to the much-loved Murcielago, at least until the wraps come off the 690bhp, 217mph supercar in Switzerland at the beginning of March.

PS...You can read more about the spec of the new LP700-4 in our previous story on the new Lambo...

I think that the image is from one of the new "cycle cams" and that this particular cyclist had just undertaken the Lambo!!

Seriously, it would be kinder for them to credit us with some common sense,...

12 months ago if you had asked i would have had a Zonda over a Murcielago, however if you ask me today would i have the 'Aventador' over the Huayra without a second thought.

Not exactly a massive departure from the Murkylager is it?

Just an observation, not a criticism. I'd still happily sell family members into slavery for one smile

Don't know if it is just me, but this looks like a very uneventful successor.

Obviously, having not seen the uncamo'd final model I can hardly pass final judgment, but looking at that 'spy shot', it just looks like a Murci, with a more Reventon-esque nose and a few extra feature lines thrown into the mix.

For me, Lambo have gone as far as the Reventon design language will take them, the Sesto Elemento could have been so much more than an angular Gallardo....obviously in engineering terms it was, but in terms of styling it really wasn't.

Maybe I was expecting something completely bonkers which isn't feasible, but for me, there hasn't been a good looking Lambo since Audi took over.

Maybe I'm talking crap...I'd still love to own one and would hardly turn one down, but would just love to see just an ounce of mental-ness return, that wasn't in the form of just more angular panels.

Edit...clearly not just me then, just me typing slow as usual!

I was going to say that too, doesn't look too different from the previous car. I'm sure it'll still be sex on wheels but I expected something a bit more radical from Lambo. The new Pagani also looks very similiar to it's predecesor. Perhaps these guys in Italy have caught onto what Porsche have been doing with the 911 for 4 decades, must save a fortune on design costs. wink

Certainly nothing revolutionary, but then again how do you go significantly more dramatic than the current car?

Maybe they can offer it for sale with the swirly wrap?

Move away from angles, and move into curves....

Not enough of a departure for me, certainly not worth the hype....

to be fair you are quite right,

I was kind of also hoping it would be completely different to the murcielago.

although luc donkervolke (think thats the old designers name) is at SEAT now? so maybe they didnt have the balls to tweak it too much

Looks ok, just not keen on those crappy wing mirrors that stick out of doors.

Makes it look cheap.

For me the Murcielago is still top of my want list over any other modern super car, I personally think they are just perfect machines, the drama, presence, looks and the big V12 I couldn’t careless that they aren’t thoroughbred racers I love road cars and Lamborghini build the best ones in my eyes.

I just hope the new one pushes Murcielago prices down in a few years then maybe, just maybe...

Could be a short topic this one. It seems that most people agree that it doesn't look different enough but most would still have one.

What does impress is the weight saving over the old Murci'. 200 kg. (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=22945). I guess most of the work was beneath the skin rather than on the skin.

By the way, the option code for the Clear engine cover sums things up quite nicely I think.
