Just a heads up... I was changing the oil on my wife's Audi PD diesel yesterday.

Went to the local factors who supply the trade around here.

After much debate they gave me the 'correct' oil as it met (IIRC) VW 502 00 and 505 00

However as it didn't specifically say PD on the container I had my doubts so Googled it and low and behold it was the wrong stuff.

I went back in and told them and they hadn't got ANY PD suitable oil in the place and there were perhaps 40 different types on display NOR were they out of any regular stock.

So WTF are all the local mechanics putting in your PD Audi - they are hardly a rare car !

My research indicated it should meet spec VW 505.01 or longlife 506.01 if this is wrong and has been superseded please post up but when I tackled the shop with this they have finally ordered in some of the correct oil from their suppliers.

A lot of garages will just put regular fully synthetic oil in as customers often baulk at being charged over £10 a litre for oil to go in their £2k car and claim they're being ripped off. A lot of the general public need educating about oil now, it's so different to how it was 10 years ago.

But this was the supplier and garages not knowing / caring which is far worse IMO.

I was buying 25 litres.

5-40 fully syth was £78

5-40 fully syth Millers PD oil was £100 so not a great deal more.

Assuming 5 litres per car £4.40 extra

Stupid thing is, if they sold 507.00 oil, it meets or exceeds nearly all the VW oil specs.

Halfords do their own brand 507.00 stuff, and it's fine.
