So ive seen the youtube clips starring the panda 4x4, it looks like a pretty capeable little beast, but the performance figures suck - its almost as slow as my old 2cv. The question is once on the move will it hustle like an old 2cv (which on the right road, driven with bravery can be pretty rapid) or is it just painful - can it keep up with traffic?

The "old" panda would go well when up to speed. They are very light and easy to preserve momentum.

I can't speak for the new one though as I've not driven it.

It's fine up to 60mph, its not too keen on motorways though! Very capable though, and living in the Lakes its the perfect thing for nipping round the lanes and doing outdoor stuff.

Neat, we have a cherokee atm, and its drink habit is getting a bit painful. We are moving to northumberland in the next few weeks - so nipping about slippery wet lanes etc is exactly it - I have a morgan for nice days

Finding one with the split/fold rear seat option is recommended though, as it also lets you slide the rear forwards and backwards too, which is not mentioned. Makes it much better for shopping etc.

A friend has one and has run over wooden fences with little effect externally.

On the other hand the build quality on the inside is awful, buttons falling off everywhere, worn seats etc. And as previosly mentioned glaciers move faster, he is often stuck to 60's on the motorway as anything above is to uncomfortable

Probably the same as my experience. Hired a Panda in Ibiza - LOVED IT. However at 120km/h it just felt unstable.
Then you should try it at 170 km/h on the speedometer. silly

On a private road, of course ..

A series II Land Rover can keep with the traffic... don't see it being an issue in a Panda tbh.

Noise as well as the engine revving rather highly and seriously light steering making any input vastly magnified

he doesn't push it that hard, he just parked up in a car park. When he came back he forgot there was a fence in front of him and just drove through/over it
