Cat C Cars and TAX

What's the deal with CAT C cars and Road Tax.

Some times I've gotten Tax without doing a VIC check
other times they insist getting a VIC first.

What's the law behind it?

I think a VIC check is triggered by a request for a new registration document, whether it is for a change of keeper or for a change with the current keepers/cars details.

I've had to had a VIC check without a change of owner (Cat C'd my own car and had it fixed anyway). Couldn't tax it without.

just an update.

DVLA don't now them self what the law is.

I went in the morning the lady said no.

I went after lunch the another lady taxed it!!
