I know there are a lot of threads concerning cheap cars and cheap insurance on pistonheads but this ones a little different.
Over summer i`m working both at my usual place of work on weekends, Working wherever the temping agency sends me and also lugging a few tools around in the boot to do a little bit of side work as well. Obviously working here there and everywhere and mainly on industrial estates a car is the most sensible form of transport. The standard criteria apply.
. must cost as little to buy as possible
. must cost as little to insure as possible (i live in an area where the inhabitants believe an ASBO is a qualification)
. it must be sensible enough to be used to throw stuff in the back
. finally as little maintenance as possible over the 3 or so months of summer

Forgot to mention i`m an 18 year old student so cheap insurance is as rare as rocking horse poo!

over to you!

Mk4 1.7 DTI Astra Van? Or if you're after a car a Nissan Micra K11 is a cheap car to run.

Im really not fussed between van and car, like i say its a short term thing. Literally being used as a box on wheels to get me too and from jobs.
There`s plenty of time for something interesting in the future but for now its whatever is the cheapest.
Thanks.

Depends who the main driver is, £500 a year sounds about right for such car

I call old person who sees the yearly cost of things not as the modern generation who only see monthly costs.

seat arosa 1.7sdi - 70mpg and no one wants to steal it because it is slow and looks silly.

I crashed mine but loved it so much I bought another one - great cars

Not really relevant but I read the title as "Cheapest possible car to run over someone"!

You can generate a big list of potential bangers but it's really down to what's available local to you when you're ready to buy the car. As you're spending as little as possible on it, it's not worth travelling far to find, so your choices are restricted by whatever is for sale locally.
