Hi everyone i'm after a couple of these as the original item has broken off.

http://www.sgs-engineering.com/shop/product/detail...

89p +VAT is fine, but i'm not going to pay £6.30 for the to be delivered when it will cost under a pound to put them in an envelope, stick on an address label and put a stamp on it.

So does anyone else know of anywhere that has a reasonable priced alternative with more realistic postage.

They are welded on as standard as part of a panel behind the hatch metal, however after 25 years the stress has got to it.

We are going to try one of these style bolts screwed in and hopefully that will be ok as there isn't really an alternative. However this means its not really something you can get from a scrap yard unfortunately.

It is for a boot strut.

Do they use a threaded screw or do they use a screw on plate with the ball stud built into it?

Yes, part shown is the same as on most VWs.

Unscrews with a 10 or 11mm spanner.

Ah so you're going to drill and tap a hole to fit a new one.

In that case, no, no idea.
That's the plan, it will hopefully work, lol.

You could try a Case International tractor dealer, very similar thing was used on the David Brown 90/94 series tractors on the back window struts. Can't swear the ball size is correct though.

Farmstar have branches at Doncaster and Market Weighton, are you close to either of them.

Try searching for Morse Cables or Teleflex. Used as steering components on our hovercraft. I'll have a look and see if I have any spare when I get home.

That's a kind offer but i only need 2, although i could make thousands from the postage wink.

Thanks for the other ideas but google is not finding any at the moment or the websites it guides me too, maybe i am looking under the wrong part names.

A Yorkshire man cant pay 3 times the cost of the items in postage. Its an unwritten law of tightness wink.

Maybe if i hadn't just ordered 2 new tyres then i would have considered it.

They look identical to those on the Rover Hatches in my family. Those unscrew. Visit your local breaker yard and get your spanners out.

Where in Yorkshire are you?

Near Rotherham?

There's a shop there that sells to the trade just about every screw / bolt / nut / fastener known to man but you have to buy in bulk - but usually if you walk in show the guy what you need if its only one or two they'll let you have it for nothing

Now if only I could remember the name of the shop.....
