Reminds me of that old TG episode with Martin Kemp. Everytime he said '911 garage' rather than a Porsch garage, and the fact he didn't know what variant he had! Cringeworthy!

I don't see how it's any different from saying "Ford Focus" rather than "Ford Focus 1.8TDCi Climate", or whatever.

if someone asks i say 911 then if they ask further i tell them.

but, you would sound a right idiot, if when someone asked you said' 1989 guards red turbo coupe with the g50 box'.

99% of people don't care about cars and you would look like a geek and that you were bragging about it.

likewise if asked you what you had and you replied 'vectra' i'd think fair enough. But, if you said vectra 2.0 CDTXI automatic with 6 disc changer in the boot' then i'd think alan partridge.

'911' is enough to satistfy someones inquisitive-ness when they ask about your car 99% of the time

I don't find them particularly interesting cars, so to me they are all 911s.

If people ask and I say 996 they look at me blankly - so now I just say 911...makes it easier for non-petrolheads to understand.

Heaven forbid they think I have a boxster, for example wink

Beetles are just cheap flimsy derivatives of the Panzer tank.
