Hi Folks,

I am relying on you all to help me out if you can please.

I am about to purchase... now don't get excited... my 'practical' vehicle biggrin

I read a recent thread on Optional extras v Insurance and have a couple of concerns. whistle

My car of choice on this occasion - The Renault Megane IMusic (Diesel). laugh (You can stop now!)

The problems I am having are:

1)It's not listed on most comparison websites for insurance.
2)I will be assigning my cherished plate so it will be a while before details are updated to insurance websites.
3)It has lots of 'factory' extras as it is a special edition.
4)I haven't the faintest what is classed as standard equipment on the Megane so don't know what - if anything I need to declare to the insurers.
5)Renault don't even list it on their website.
6)I can't get a spec sheet from anywhere for love nor money.

How on earth do I insure it and what, if anything do I have to declare to the insurers or do I not need to declare anything as it is 'Factory Standard'.

Oh - and presumably if I have a Dog Guard fitted I need that added on??

So folks - there you have it! Boring old git motor - for middle aged dog owner. shoot me now. smokin

Ooh and if anyone has any feedback on the 08> Megane hatchback feel free to chip in. nerd

I'm afraid I gave up on the MKII Escorts and Capris doughnutting in Budgens car park in around 1986 and got more boring as the years passed. wavey

Look forward to your replies!

maybe use comparison sites to get quotes using the closest fit to give you an idea of costs, then ring round the 5 cheapest/most suitable and add the detail (whilst reminding that these are factory fitted options NOT modifications) and see what comes up best. Will require a little more legwork (finger work?) but will ensure peace of mind.

The dog guard is a permanent one though you see. Drilled and secured to the trims. ;-)

This one is for me.

I also have a Megane iMusic, but a petrol. It's okay although 4,000 revs on the motorway isn't fun. Handling is okay but the steering is a little lifeless. In six months, exactly nothing has gone wrong and even though it's a petrol it still returns 40 mpg (although it doesn't reward driving it hard).

I'm surprised it's not listed on insurance comparison websites. In fact I've just checked and it is on MoneySupermarket.

As for kit - 4x electric windows, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors, 17" alloy wheels, air con, remote central locking and front fog lights are all standard. There's no need to declare anything it came with - they will know and expect that. I'd be surprised if it had any extras on it. I doubt very much that anyone would consider a dog guard to be "material" to an insurance contract - it's probably not even permanently fixed to the car.

I think the iMusic stopped production for 2011 MY but it ran from late 2009 - so there are plenty around.

Thanks David - the dog guard I have is a permanent fixture - http://www.barjo.co.uk/products/tailgate-guards/as...

The fixings are riveted to the trim. I compete with the dogs and transport them a lot - have heard too many stories about boot's popping open after minor (and major) rear enders and loose dogs ending up causing accidents of getting killed.

Really useful post - Mine is currently en-route from France, i'm getting the 1.5 diesel. I only go on a motorway maybe once a month at most which is why it seemed daft for me to be paying out on a 1.9TD 150bhp when I just don't get the opportunity to give her a blast - all rural roads where I am. Though may take some getting used to not being able to nip past the odd tra'tor. Ooo Arrr
