A friend over here is looking at getting rid of a few cars and buying a Focus RS500 Black. It won't come with any warranty as it's not officially imported and is going to cost around GBp100k. Are there any problems he should know ie faults, things to allow for etc. He has finally had enough of his GTR breaking down and just wants something that won't

Could he be based abroad and have to pay high import taxes etc? Iv heard of £15k cars costing £60k in singapore!

No problems that I am aware of, I run the standard RS & the only thing id add is that it is heavy on fuel and im not sure how tough the black wrap on the 500 is, if it gets marked god knows how you repair it.

Great all rounders if you can live with the fuel consumption though...

There is a problem, fortunately they've put a ring around it, to highlight it.

hehe.

100K for a focus, you must be, a) rich, b) daft as a brush eek.

No smartarse I know what it is. What I meant was what kind of person (who presumably isnt in a straight jacket) would pay 100k for a ford focus!

The biggest problem you will have with the RS500 is the wrap. I'm a 3M approved sign writer and have had a fair few warrenty claims on the wrap. God knows why Ford didn't just spray it Matt black. If it's going to be a garage queen then it will hold up fine but any stone chip etc will show up like a soar thumb, Ford supply small cut out circles with the car to go over the stone chip but they just make it look even worse. My advice if you got one would be remove the wrap and get the door handles and door mirrors (which where sprayed Matt) sprayed back to gloss.

Im guessing the same people that pay up to £500k for a lambo in Singapore that would cost £100k in UK.

Blimey - I, seriously, didn't realise they were that cheap! Let me put that in context - I thought regular RS200s were well over £100k, let alone a garage queen with 1k miles! (ignore the fact that it's low mileage is probably a bad thing)

Quite right, the cost of something 'interesting' can be quite high, there is a rising tax on engine size and also horsepower, it can get to over 200% tax, but petrol is about 50p a litre, and the sun is shining so it's not too bad.

If you contact Mark, the chap selling the RS200 he has a brace of Focus RS500s he is about to sell, some very special ones at that, and as a respected dealer he regularly ships high end cars to customers all over the world.

The shells are painted gloss black under the wrap.

Its unfortunate for sure, but I feel that there is a difference in paying more than 3 times the UK price for a Lamborghini and doing the same for a Ford Focus. rolleyes

Why?

If you want the car, you pay the tax.

Bizarre logic. Remember that a Focus RS is probably far more rare in Thailand then a run of the mill Lambo is over here. Add to the fact that when I've driven in Thailand a Ferrari/Lambo wouldn't last five minutes as there roads can be a fair sight worse then ours.
