We're needing to replace the daily cars at A911DOM manor... As you may or may not have read recently, we both currently have Renaults and they have both started to display significant signs of sttness.

I've been looking round the available rides and am thinking that having a Yeti for the Mrs and an Octavia Estate for me might be a relatively sensible and almost affordable option?

Criteria:

3 kiddie spaces across the back (ages 3, 7 & 10).
Nothing too big (Mrs has Scenic currently so that size is fine).
Bigger the better for me, but - see next point:
Nothing too exciting or petrol thirsty cos the Belgian tax regime likes to go to town on anything and everything but especially cars with a decent sized engine.
Nothing French!!! Once bitten and all that rolleyes

So, over to the PH masses... paperbag

Seat Exeo instead of the Octavia, Yeti is a good choice though.

Anything Skoda is a safe bet these days. I'd go Yeti.

certainly not folly, big fan of the Skoda's especially Yeti. IMO get the Yeti for the family but why not get something a bit more interesting for you? Nothing wrong with Octavia excellent cars but do you really want two of the same marque?

1.9 Superb purchased with 100k on clock, added 65k over last 3 year. Apart from servicing, tyres and pads the only fault has been an altenator bearing. Its never broken down. Also run a Fabia, no probs either. Just wish the Esprit was as reliable!!! Will have 2 more for sure.

Okay, well thats all sounding fairly positive so far.

Im really struggling to come up with any good alternatives that stick to the fairly tight budget, and also comply to the 'cheapish to tax and run' rules.

I did wonder about 2 cars of the same make again - but Im also wondering about the potential to bargain with the salesperson over 2 cars instead of 1 - AND Ive heard nothing but good things about them from colleagues and reviews?

Further suggestions / comments welcome!

As a Fabia (MK1) owner, I'd say the MK1 is fantastic and the MK2 is very much a "meh" car. No one seems to like it.

However, you missed:

Yeti: Fantastic (see the press reviews)

Roomster: Fantastic (although the reviewers didn't know what to make of it, the owners seem to love them)

Going on the not a badge snob VAG theme we had a Seat Altea (IIRC) as a hire car recently and I was genuinely impressed. I'm sure it's not as "now" as a Yeti but is probably cheaper for it.

Yup, we had a Fabia 1.4Tdi for 4 years, a 2006 model with 'comfort' spec.
Brilliant car, silly economy and nothing broke in 50,000 miles. It needed 2 tyres and servicing in that time.
Would have had another but alas they're not on the company car list anymore.

Currently trying to persuade the inlaws to get a Yeti. They look fun! Do check the rear seat comfort though, apparently the rear bench seat isn't as comfy as it could be.

I'm currently running a 1.8Tsi Octavia Scout. Sprightly performance with the added benefit of 4WD and plenty of space in the back.

The Octavia's a brilliant car. If I'd been after a larger car I'd have considered one instead of the Fabia. Plenty spacious.

I did have a look at the Seat range - but it seems they've forgotten they're meant to be a cheap alternative to a VW over here rolleyeswink

You really shouldn't have any qualms or worries about having Skodas instead, that would be like having concerns moving from Proton to BMW hehe

I've got a Roomster and my brother has a Yeti, both share the same rear
seat set up and I find the middle seat is only any good for occasional
use. It's 2/3rds the size of the outer two and doesn't slide and no
headrest as standard.

Mines not missed a beat in 40K miles! smile

I went from Renault to Skoda, for similar reasons. My Fabia's getting on for 57k now and the worst that's happened so far is I've had to replace a fuse.

My 1st Fabia vRS had only one fault in three years/60K, the pipe for the RWW popped off when I tried to use it whilst frozen. My 2nd vRS also had only one fault in three years/45K, the rear n's speaker packed up. Apart from that, fantastic build quality and panel fit, great plastics, no rattles, just regular servicing only, and a general Germanic and Teutonic feel to the overall package, the way the doors shut is BMW/Mercedes like. No wonder I had a third vRS (although I hate the DSG gearbox on my latest).

I really like Kays Yellow vRS, a rare colour, I had a Black one, and a Race Blue one, followed by Rallye Green/Black roof.

After getting ignored in both BMW & Audi dealerships over the last few weeks (must smarten myself up after walking the dogs on my days off!) we have been looking seriously at Skoda. Today test drove both the Octavia VRS(estate) & the Superb TDi(170bhp). Very impressed with both, looks like we will be replacing the A6 avant with the Superb 4x4 estate.

The Superb estate is a fabulous thing, and pure class, it's what I call a proper 'Old Money' car, and easily the equal of a 5 series touring or an E class estate at less than half the price.
