Dunno why this popped in to my head this AM on the drive in, but just thought of a little 'what car' game to play.

Let's say the government says you can now transfer tax discs from car to car at will, but makes them expensive enough to mean you would only want one disc at once.

So you decide to own two cars, but one can only be driven for six months in the summer, the other for six months in the winter. As you can only use one at once it has to satisfy all your automotive needs, so you can't have one lugger and one tiny sports car, unless you can convince me you could manage that way.

So what would you want from the summer and the winter car? e.g. 4wd in the winter, rwd in the summer. Turbo in the winter (they like the cold air?), N.A. in the summer? Convertible in the summer, hardtop in the winter.

Budget: I'm open to ideas, let's say £30,000 to spend (used cars allowed).

Erm, I'll have a supercharged Honda Elise on cut slicks for the summer and, um, a basic Elise on winter tyres for the winter, please. smile

I'm quite happy with my car for both, really.

As I said, I'm open to arguments on increasing the budget, but don't want it to turn into a willy-waving thread, so thought £30k would mean folk had to be creative.

Another thought: if you had a fixed budget, would you spend roughly the same on each car, or more on one season, and why?

Winter - Jaguar XJ12 (Series 1)
Summer - Porsche 944, early dash

I already have one of them smile (the Porsche).

Can I have a couple more as they don't add up to anywhere near £30K? smile

Pretty much what I've got now:

Summer: Jag XJR (£20K)
Winter: Range Rover Vogue (2.5K) , a car I bought back in October specifically for this winter.

So still well under budget smile

Winter - any 4wd estate car big enough for skis. Winter tyres required. Alfa 159 sportswagon with Q4 perhaps? 2.4l 5 pot diesel?

Summer - Must be convertible. Must have room in boot for bint's shoes and makeup for dirty weekend. Must be reasonably quick, reasonably comfortable if it's the only car. Boxster S in a nice non grey / silver or black colour.
