I could barely believe it - i did in fact literally pinch myself.

Unfortunately I didn't get my camera out in time so I haven't managed to take a picture, but a quick search on google reveals that there are at least 2 in existance as the one i saw was black and there are images of silver ones on the internet.

It was - a new shape Volkswagen Passat with a petrol engine.

Quick search of autotrader shows there are 675 Passats for sale up to 1 year old.

670 of them are diesel!

I thought the new TSi engines would restore the balance, but obviously not.

I've noticed a lot of petrol A4s recently, maybe all the petrol buyers are going for these instead of the passat?

I feel that way about the A3 these days, to the extent I woke the missus up on a drive home to point out a petrol A3.

No, the most unusual car imaginable was the violet (flat, not metallic) 996 turbo that I saw driving through the streets of South East London this morning.

Oh that's not true at all. Not now you've brightened it up with your cheery smile.

VW need to keep their dealerships in work, replacing injectors, flywheels and DPFs. They don't want their customers to buy petrol Passats, it would put the dealerships out of business.

What's rarer, a Passat with a petrol engine or a Passat that isn't black or silver?

I don't think so. I see a few petrol A4s around, but i don't think i've ever seen a newish petrol Passat before. At all. Ever.

In fact even the older ones there's a W8 somewhere round here, but other than that they are all diesels.

I once woke the OH up for a Passat W8. She didn't actually mind, she was that amazed that anyone would lay out nearly 40 grand on a Passat that'd be worth 10 bob in a few years time!

I hate these pointless threads where someone makes up something completely unbelievable.
