Refreshed Mercedes C63 Revealed

Pics of updated AMG C-class slip out ahead of Geneva unveil

It's not due on sale until this autumn, and not set to be officially unveiled until the Geneva show in March, but these pics of the newly tweaked Mercedes C63 AMG have filtered out into web land.

The visual refresh has been kept as light as possible, with a new grille, SL-alike headlamps (now with LED daytime running lights), LED tail lamps and revised alloys.

Thankfully, the magnificent naturally aspirated 6208cc V8, now in the twilight of its years, is still to be found beneath the bonnet of the C63, rather than the new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 you may remember from such AMGs as the new CLS63 AMG.

That means the C63 remains possessed of 451bhp and 442lb ft of torque (unless you tick the option box that raises output to 481bhp allows the muscle-Merc to run all the way up to 174mph, of course).

The biggest tweak under the skin is a new transmission. Out has gone the old seven-speed auto, and in has come a, er, new seven-speed auto 'box. This does, however, swap out the conventional torque converter for a high-performance clutch pack in the name of smoother, faster changes.

Oooh, now that is a beauty. Normally I like the estate variant a la' RS4/6 or the M Tourings but I love the saloon in this AMG.

Stunning, love the new SL-a-like lights too. Great to see the 6.2 V8 still here too.

Agree, they've changed the bad bits (made it better looking, got rid of the torque converter) and kept the good bits (engine).

Want.

Beginning to like Merc HPE's.

And it's not just because Saga is knocking on the door biggrin.

One of my favourite cars - the exhaust noise alone would be justification for buying one.

I've never liked modern Mercs but I have a real hankering for a C63 estate.

+1
That alone makes a C63 oh so desirable.

Ooh now this is rather special:

I love white acrs with black rims, but only if they have the silver rim.

That ticks all the boxes - yes please.

I'll have a C63 AMG Estate for every day and an SLS for fundays please...

I think the C63 is one of the best saloons to come of out of Merc's stables in years. They used to be the king of uber saloons and then seemed to loose their way a bit for a decade or two but the C63 has put them right back in the fight.

These are superb cars - i was luckily enough to borrow one for a couple of days and they are a absolute riot to drive. The engine gives the car an immense character and the sound is frankly awesome.

Even more reason for BMW to build the M3 Touring? Is AMG exempt from the 155mph limit?

Looks fantastic. And even if it didn't, it would be worth buying for the noise alone.

My neighbour just got an 58 plate one, he always give it some beans when I am walking the kids to school. The sound that thing makes is incredible.

My mate saw it and said "who needs 6.3 litres!", isn't that the point. I don't know if I could live with 15mpg though you would be forever filling up, yup just checked and it has a range of 235 miles. He is probably filling up every other day.
