Friend visiting from Oz for 3 months.
Other than a daily rate with Avis et al, are there any better options?

He could buy something but I imagine insurance for 3 months would be difficult and costly?

Any suggestions pls?

I would imagine avis daily rates are going to be quite steep and if the car isnt used daily it will be wasted cash so you could consider buying something cheap, insure it yourself on a monthly direct debit, but put him on the insurance, then sell it and claim back a refund on the insurance when the car is sold. pretty sure thats all legal and possible. just wander round the used car garages for an hour or so looking for the part ex stuff they have taken in and you should get something cheap enough...

Buying the car isn't the issue. Insurance will be the killer...

Might be easier to do a short term lease - can you lease something and then insure them on it?

I spoke to my insurance company and they said not interested as the person doesn't have a UK license.

Avis, National, Enterprise et al have 28+ day long term rates. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get a Ka or something similar for less than £100/week including third party insurance, CDW & VAT.
