Loaded single girl wants fancy new car
Discussion
OK so this is a can of worms and could quite possibly run and run
But what the hell
My missus has a(n attractive) single mate who fancies a new car
She is lucky to be financially secure enough to have a pretty good budget
I chatted to her last night and realised she is an accident waiting to happen at your local car showroom
She has little idea about whats out there, no idea of how best to pay for it and no idea about what she wants
She also has no idea about cars on anything more than a superficial level and is worried that the recent AA bodge on her daily snotter would knock £££ off any trade in when she fesses up to the salesman
Now I clearly applaud honesty but Im not sure if I would immediately tell a salesman that my car need a 200 quid mechanical when I offer it to the trade however she would and faIr play to her
Her needs are pretty straightforward and are probably served by a drop top Audi TT
But if you were a mate and werent married to her pal which I am LOL what would you advise bearing in mind she knows nothing about the process of buying cars ?
All she wants is a 'nice' motor and a good deal
As a single woman she would rather not flog her old motor thro the local rag or he Autotrader - thus she is looking to get shut thro the trade
Consequently she will be offered naff all for it but as it needs 200 squids spending on it that seems fair to me but does not sit happily with her morals
Unfortunately for her she also thinks most car salesmen share her moral stance which is where we differ
So to sum up
My missus mate wants a car to make her feel good
She isnt actually into cars and has been pursuaded to look at TTs
Shes worried about conning the trade with her PartX which needs 200 quid spending on it yet isnt worried about being short changed by a salesman on its actual real value
Ive told her to swallow her morals, MTFU and buy whatever car makes her feel good
On the other hand I dont go to church and she does
What sexy sports car would Jesus drive???
Erm. Maybe I'm tired, but MGTF? Or an older Porsche Boxster? With the MG, imo cutesy drop top that still looks fresh. With the Boxster, ok it could be considered a 'car person's' car but by the same token, it's a Porsche. If it has the orange indicator lenses, swap some clear ones on, add a dateless plate and sorted. I think anyway?
Whats the budget?
Is this a new TT, if so how about she looks at the A3 vert as well. The new SLK is coming out very soon so thats worth a look too.
It has to be applauded that she owns up about the work needed on her car. Why is it OK for us to lie but if someone in the motortrade lied about the car being perfect we'd all be calling for there heads?

id advise her the same thing as anyone else, get a broker like carfile to give her a price and then it's up to her to get the salesman of wherever to match it, this way she will KNOW whether she is being rinsed or not
also advise her to AVOID the dealer GAP insurance or lifelong wax rubbish like the plague
as for her PX thats down to her, most dealers will give trade so fair enough

Spend 5 mins on the intert00bz finding examples of her current car on autotrader and pistonheads classifieds.
For her conscience, knock £200 from the average value you decide it's worth. Nobody else would do this, but if she's got a heart that pure then there's no reason to drag her down to our level and have her worrying about karma.
Take it to dealer and trade in for closest figure to the above that is possible against new TT roadster. This choice is based on her wanting a new car, a trendy car, a posh badge, no roof, a warranty, and having no regard for depreciation.
She can do this alone, being sure to flash cleavage for the best deal she can get if she's a salesperson herself or a half decent negotiator.
Alternatively ignore the above and as her mate's petrolhead-husband, go with and make sure she isn't screwed over.[/Sleaze Mode Override]
So then.
