Have you put a tiny steering wheel on it or something?

Must echo the 'why' sentiments?

No idea if it's any help but IIRC the done thing for Escorts was using Corsa B power steery bits.

My question too! The earlier Fiestas don't need power steering and you'd lose feedback through the wheel.

If thats so then i would not end up going ahead with it, i was told they dont have power steering so i just fort of the idea to bring a bit more of a smoother ride..

and no its a full original.

Power stering wouldn't make for a 'smoother ride' just make the steering lighter. I cannot personally see the reason for it myself. Having owned a K10 Micra without, a pair of 106s (one with, one without) and a pair of Mk6 Escorts (again one with, one without) and driven many others it only makes a difference when parking and not enough too warrent the work unless your a bit feeble.

But then again I am mad enough to run a LWB landie with no PAS smile

I wouldn't worry about adding powersteering but I would contemplate a brake upgrade.
I ran a 1.0L mk2 as my first car and even with 13x7 alloys an quite wide tyres the steering was easy enough to handle. Swapping to a XR2 steering wheel made a huge difference to the steering feel compared with the bus size wheel that was in it before.

yer ino it makes the steering lighter thats what i mean by smoother ride simply giving to nicer steering..

i have never actually driven a mk2 fiesta so i wouldn't no bout the steering but from what i have read there is not need for the power steering so thanks for the information people.

just simply wanting to no because im only 17 and i love to look of older cars and im going to pick up an original mk2 fiesta soon and ort the power steering might be a good idea.

Lighter steering will NOT make the car nicer to drive. Have you begun learning to drive yet (as you are 17)? Without the power assistance, you can feel what the front wheels are doing (in terms of steering and grip/traction) much much better so will have far better control of what you are doing. I guess you already realise from the feedback that the MK2 Fiesta is a light car so realy won't need PAS. In my opinion, going for an older, lightweight car without all the electronic gubbins will be a great way to learn to drive properly, and I'm sure you will have a blast! You don't need tons of power to enjoy driving after all. Good luck!

I think as a 17 y/o lad you should just MTFU. My first car didn't have PAS and the steering was 10x more communicative than with it, which made driving so much more enjoyable. In fact, once your moving the steering isn't heavy at all, it's only parking where you really notice the weight. You'll be ruining a nice standard classic car by fitting it, as well as wasting money and devaluing the car in the process.

Corsa P/S column and motor is the usuall way i beleive on older fords, certainly on the Mk1/2 escort it is.
It'll require some welding if you want to keep the fiesta switchgear and also there's an ECU and some leccy mods to do as well.
have a look on turbosports thumbup it's coverd for ecorts on there, not exactly the same but it'll give you an idea wink

sorry for the actualy usefull post i forgot what forum i was on for a moment smile
