My car is SORN at present. I want to get the annual service and MOT in March, current MOT expired. I know I can drive to a pre booked MOT without a current ticket but does this cover having no tax too. Obviously cant get tax without MOT!! Thanks all.

Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

Thanks. I feel this answers it. The key is to book the MOT I guess.

you need to be 'on your way' to the mot if you get stopped though. you can't just book one a week in advance and drive around until then.

Also, just to make it clear, you do need insurance.

Thanks, I am insured, originally I was going to take it to the garage for the service and they were going to MOT it, now I will take it myself, pass (?) the MOT, tax it and then take it for the service etc. A bit convoluted but I think I know what to do, and yes, go directly to MOT, no diversions en route!
