Local Roadtrips
Discussion
Remember when people used to drive for the fun of it? A bygone era when you didn't need a mortgague for insurance and was less than the train fare to the Moon and back to fill the fuel tank? When the DVLA was an autority who provided a public service and not a corperation Hell bent defrauding the nation?
I haven't had a proper for the sake of it roadtrip in ages. The last one was to collect a seat I'd bought for last years £999 car.
So he's one local to me.
From King's Lynn take the B1125 to Norwich via the Reepham road. Then as there's nothing of interest at all in Norwich take the A47 as far as Derham and turn left on to the Brandon Road as far as the A1065. From the A1065 head south-ish to the A134 and turn right headed towards Wereham (home of Wereham dismantlers one of the best parts sorces in Norfolk). At the Wereham round about take the first exit on to College Road past British Sugar Wissington (close your windows there) and out on to the A10 via the Feltwell Road turning left toward Cambridge. Stick to the A10 until you reach the bridge that goes over the River Great Ouse then turn right for the The Ship Inn. Best pub/restaurant I have ever been in (pity it's a drive to get there). Check your Passports as you are now in Cambridgeshire. After a pub lunch go back on the A10 untill you get to the Queen Adelaide roundabout. Take the second exit (Queen Adelaide road) and enjoy the view of the back of Ely and one of the most dangerous (fun) Cambridgeshire has to offer. From Queen Adelaide take the A142 towards Chatteris (sorry boring bit and usually tractor/caravan territory so don't expect to do more than 50mph). Before you get to Chatteris (where there's even less to do than Norwich) turn right for the B1098; the most dangerous (fun) road in Cambridgeshire. At the end of a two and a half mile long straight there's a complex of bends that catches a lot of people out and they end up in the river. When you reach a village called "Three Holes" (insert postfeminist punchline here.....) take the A1101 towards Wisbech and the easy way from there is twelve miles of A47 back to King's Lynn.
Plan a roadtrip local to you and post it here.
I don't know about you but I'm getting a bit fed up of just using my car to get me to work and back.

So...you live in Kings Lynn, but reckon there's nothing to do in Norwich!? Riiiiiiight!
(Wholeheartedly agree about Chatteris though!)
That route touches on a few roads I know well, as I live near Chatteris, work at RAF Marham (near KL and Downham), and cycle at Thetford a bit. In the summer, I vary my drive to and from work quite a bit, as 40 miles across those roads gives plenty of variety. This time of year, I don't bother, as the roads are all covered in mud from the sugar beet season, and potholed badly.
Good route though! (If you wanted to extend it, you could try the B660, a bit further west.)

This route is known locally as the "Oopnurthring", a route around the Northern Peak District. It is best run on a Sunday morning though because the Snake and Woodhead are both busy routes during the day and full of trucks and dawdlers. This website http://oopnurthring.com/ is currently under construction but there are a couple of YouTube videos of the whole route:
Part 1: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8530037199...

I think King's Lynn to California run is over due. There's a really nice pub there as well. [soft drinks obviously]
A148 to Croma. The the Walsham Road to Cali'. Pub lunch. Broads to Acle (there's another nice pub where you have to get the ferry across the Broads). Avoid Norwich (anyone who has ever driven in Norwich and lived to tell the tale will agree it's best avoided) and the B1125 back.
Funnily enough my last road trip was to Manchester via the Snake pass.
Edited to add "Soft drinks obviously" Zero's the limit guys. Drive Safe.
