Went to visit a well known DIY store yesterday with my dad in his new car (Lexus 450H thingy)

Was in the car as he went to return the trolley (It's one of those money stealing ones), as some chavy family pulled in closely next to the drivers side. Family hop out and the open the door 3 or 4 times to colect various items from the car, before the inevitable THUD. Spring out of car to confront family, who just shrug it off.

They walk off as if nothing has happened, and i check for damage. As my Dad returned, i told him to check as i could see one of the family standing by the door, watching us. Just as we're about to leave (Luckily no damage) he returns to the car and just stands there (The rest of his family are still in the store somewhere), looking smug. I've never been so close to smashing someone in the face with a 75% off yukka plant in my whole life.

Although the guy by the car was the one who caused the damage, he was not the driver, and would probably have no idea what to do if we wanted to take his details or whatever in order to fix any damage.

he did get quite a surprise when it first happened. It all happened so quickly, that by the time he'd turned around after knocking the car, i was already RIGHT behind him with a very pissed off look on my face. hehe

How can people

A) Not park properly, and
B) Not open a door without smashing someone else's car.

It really does my head in. And my door...

It would seem the answer is to have a second car for taking to Asda, et al, or drive a snotter. Sadly.

I had an instance of someone parking very close to me, so it would have been likely that they would have hit my door when they got out. No damage, so it is possible that they didn't hit my car. Anyway, I was at work a few days later and over coffee my colleagues and I got onto the topic of car parks and people being tts. One of my colleagues said that sometimes when he's putting stuff into his car he will lean his door against a neighbouring car, so that it won't get any momentum to cause a thud or any damage. I commented that this is still pretty disrepectful of other peoples property, despite some consideration in his method. He disagreed, however I informed him that if I saw anyone doing that then I wouldn't be very happy about it.

The fact of life is that most people don't see cars as anything other than a form of transport, and sadly have no respect for other peoples cars either. The people on here are enthusiastic about their cars, so are more sensitive about this sort of thing.

Park at the far end of the car park where the ignorant plebs are too fat/lazy to walk from.

Perhaps you should explain that every time he places some thing in the car or leans in to do so, it will cause the door to rub up & down the vehicle that he has so considerately positioned his door against. COCK

This this this every single time.

Anyone who parks with the rest of the morons is just asking for trouble. Every car i've ever owned, i park in the furthest most distant, quiet corner of the car park.

Exactly. If the car has those plastic things on the doors then he will only really be damaging his own paint. However, that's not the point. It is the same as resting a trolley against someone elses car whilst you unload shopping into your boot- you just don't do it.

Good tip. It's a shame some tend to park close to nicer cars in the hope theirs won't get damaged

This is normally true, but sometimes even the plebs get the same idea. I once had cause to visit a local tesco's, and used this very method. Not too far away was a mint subaru impreza sti, parked on its own. By the time we came out(about 5 minutes) people in stters, had parked either side of it, and essentially blocked the owner in

i think we should push for pistonheads only parking across the country. With spaces like this.

And then park right up against the line. Defeating the whole purpose.

At my college about 1/2 of the spots are visitor only and there are hardly enough for students. When someone asked the admin about this they responded with 'we charge for parking to reduce the carbons!'. Eh?!

I had this last week> from now on will be parking in the most disused part of carparks regardless of how much parking is available.

Shop in Costco. Their parking spaces are sized for big yank tanks. Otherwise park miles away or buy a snotter.

I always do that, much to the annoyance of my other half. Unfortunately, despite the fact Ive chosen to park in
the emptiest most far away corner of the car park, more often than not I'll come back and find someone parked next
to me. It ****ing boggles the mind that someone will also opt to park in an empty far away area but barely leave any
room between their car and ours.

Being realistic, it must be a struggle to find a decent size space to put a Lexus 450H in at the best of times. It's unavoidable that it's going to get scratched and dented unless it's never used.
