My car occasionally stalls when I arrive at a junction, traffic lights, roundabout etc, depress the clutch and come to a halt. It's a '03 WRX with 133K miles on the clock. It has only happened about 3 times in the past month but that's a lot to me considering it's previous 100% reliability record.

So... what are the prime suspects? Fuel starvation? MAF?

MAF is a good start, also inlet/hoses air leaks?

Havde you checked the clutch master cylinder (assuming it's a hydraulic system)?

If the master cylinder is leaking internally, then it's possible that the clutch isn't fully clearing - Meaning when you dip the clutch, the gearbox is still partially connected to the engine - This additional load on the engine will cause it to stall - Quite common on RX-7's, and happens most commonly when the clutch has been operated a few times without fully releasing the pedal (i.e when sat in heavy traffic at junctions)

Edit to say: The obvious sign of this concern is the clutch biting point changing (getting closer to the floor), when stuck in traffic..

Idle control valve is an issue on most Imprezas however unlike the one's fitted to most other cars they are surprisingly expensive.

Yeah I did wonder about that too, as my daughter's Ka had the same problem and I was able to fix it by removing and cleaning the ICV.

I'm also getting the ECU warning light flashing at me occasionally. I don't know if it is related but that normally indicates a lambda sensor problem I think.
