What is the earliest you can Tax a car so that you get the full months tax.

e.g. To get a tax disc that expires end Feb 2012, what is the earliest you can go to a post office and buy it?

27th Jan?
29th Jan?
31st Jan?
1st Feb?

I can't believe they'd sell you a 'January' tax disc if you went to the post office on the 31st January for example, so how far back will they go?

DVLA website says:

If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.

If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.

If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

You'd get a disc which started on 1 January.

Shirley not?
You can renew from the 5th of the precedeeing month so if the OP wants a disk which expires end of Feb 2012 he could apply from the 5th of January 2011.
