Wonder if anyone can shed some light or have any ideas what may happen.

Parents Saab 9-3 broke down last night (Alternator packed in) - Got towed to local Main Dealer who started work on the car this morning.

Hadn't heard anything from the garage all day, they went down at around 4:30 today, everything was all closed up, bollards up, one person was in the garage (just a receptionist by the sounds of things) who informed them that liquidators had came in during the day, told everyone to leave and all work stopped.

Car is now sitting on a ramp, stripped down and can't get access to it today, athough she did inform us that the car had definitely been worked on and was not in a running state.

Now at least if I can get the car out I could get it to the garage I work at (Was at Saab because of possible contribution towards os as car is just out of warranty) but who knows when (or if?) we will get to it.

Pretty unique situation but at a complete loss at what to do bar going down afer 12 tomorrow and speaking to liquidators who will be there then.

Any advice apreciated!!

You will get the car back, just take down v5 with you as proof of ownership and ensure you get all parts as well with it.

You will of course have to think about moving the vehicle. If I were you I would ask how long you have to move vehicle and put all parts in the boot and lock it as you do not want anyone taking bits that arent theres,

If you know what parts it needs put in a cheeky bid for the items with the administrator!!!

Thanks for the reply.

If we can get it out the dealers premises I can get a trailer and pick it up myself and get it to my own place of work.

Not sure if they would be funny about taking it away from them - not sure if they would want it to go to another Saab garage (about 50 miles away)

Why? Just because the garage has gone bust does not make your car the property of the administrator. If you can get it off the premises at no extra cost to them they will be more than pleased.

If Saab were contributing to the repair, speak to Martel House, make sure they know the situation and there is a chance that when the Walon lorries come to get the Saab finance stock out of the dealer, they may use that vehicle to relocate your car to another dealer.

You do need to go down to the dealer and speak to the number crunchers though. Don't be surprised if you get billed for the work they have already done!

It wasn't the property of the dealers. So The Liquidators can't hold the car. They (reasonable as you would too) need to be sure your not nicking stock so take all info, communication, V5 with you. If they refuse call the Police- I bloody would.

Unappealing as it may sound, I think that the garage could have, and so the liquidators can, assert a lien over the car and its parts for the price of the work done on it.

Administration or liquidation though? If the former the administrators may be carrying on the business for a short period of time, and the work may get finished.

Btw, can someone fix that bloody echo in here?

Have you thought about contacting your insurance company? They might have some ideas even if under the legal cover side.

I thought this practice had been stopped.
OP hope you get the car back and sorted.

The Police will just laugh.

A representative of the Official Receiver or the Administrators will be able to give the car back.

How? Its not the dealers legal property nor is it part of their assets. How can a Liquidator claim ownership over something that is not within the portfolio?
That's how liens work though, non? In the same vein a garage can do exactly the same thing and refuse to release the car until a bill is paid for example.

A lien isn't ownership. It is a simple form of security to secure payment.
