Help deciding please :)
Discussion
Hi guys, I am currently looking to buy a cheap runaround to save me running my 3.2 v6 guzzler for bout 400-500 miles a week and hopefully save quite a bit of money. I have narrowed it down to 2000 plate vw lupo 1.0 and 2000 plate skoda fabia 1.9sdi. I am really after the most economical/reliable car to drive out of them. I love driving my v6 as it's setup just perfect so I am not sure Whether I ll find the skoda to b too sluggish, or whether me enjoying the lupo will dramatically reduce it's mpg. Please help, I really can't decide, would like to get either one this weekend, thnx
Personally I wouldn't go for either if your a bit concerned about sluggishness(is this a word?) as both take around 18seconds to reach 62mph.
Obviously you'll save packets in fuel/tax and insurance over your current commmuting car, but if your prepared to sacrifice a few mpg's i'd opt for the Lupo 1.4s as this will be much better to drive than the 1.0

Personally I would definitely opt for a diesel over a petrol for the 400-500 miles a week you'll be doing, especially as for 10+ year old cars the price differential between them will be fairly small. I echo what Hornblower says though, both are painfully slow and you will soon be tearing your hair out when struggling up slip roads and the like.
Thanks for the reply, if I could afford to loose few mpgs it would mean I d b able to go with lupo gti too
but because I am still keeping my v6 purely to keep me smiling, the runaround car will really have to b just reliable and cheap to run. Enjoying the drive is a bonus, ( I used to love my mgfs for summer) altough not a need as I ll still have my fun car. What would u go for then, lupo or fabia

I had one of these a few years ago:

Great little car, fun to drive and cheap tax £35 a year. pretty nippy too. I'd reccomend it.
