OK, My daily drive has gone terminal and I need a new car by the end of the weekend. As it's just after Xmas, and I've committed to a large spend on my Cerb I have an absolute max of £3K to spend.
I'm not into Fords or Vauxhalls or anything 'ordinary'.
Not too bothered about fuel consumption.
Don't really like small cars (the BRM was a rare departure for me)
I should possibly consider the fact that snow is going to influence my decision.
Must be reliable, it needs to get me to work everyday!
I throw the discussion open to the PH floor! smile

I can't speak for any of the others, but I'd forget about the XJ8 based on my ownership experience if you want to get to work with any regularity.

360 days of the year, the E39 will be a fantastic car, however the 4 days a year when it snows could be a pain unless you budget for a pair of winter tyres for the driven wheels

I assumed you meant an E38 740i & voted for that. I love the looks & lack of ubiquity like other BMW's-the creamy V8 & low price do it for me too. Would love one to complement the Eunos.
Anyone can look cool in a '7 too :-)

I put three paving-slabs in the boot of my 528i - it kept me going up hills where fwd cars were struggling.

What's gone wrong - tell me it's not the BRM that's died?

I've gone for the E39. It's fairly unbeatable at £3k, though an XJR would tempt me heavily. Would look good next to the Cerb too

60 votes so far and none for the Freelander, says a lot really.

I voted for the Jeep, mainly because you mentioned snow and I've always wanted one. I love the look and sound of them.

Yep Gearbox dissolved and I can't justify the amount needed to fix it!

I hadn't considered the A6, was looking at A4 quattros, but that is nice!

I quite like the Jeep, lot of car for the money, unfortunately my mechanic has put me right off them!

My E39 was faultless but not as much fun as my XJ6, see here winkhttp://mobile.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=...
I've had 4 XJ6's in the past, love them! The only faults I ever had were electrical ones, which were easily fixed, and wheel bearings which required access to a press!
Quite like the thought of an XJ6 sport or an XJR or XJ8.

I'm also extremely drawn to the 750i !
