Just flipping through the local classifieds and found this under "Rare and Exotics". Rare yes, exotics optomistic!!!

Austin Allegro S2 1300 Super
1 owner from new (in 1978)
Asking $SG49,800 (or about GBP25k!!!!!)

And that is about the correct price here, but who in their right mind is going to spend that much on an Austin Agro?!!?!?

Definitely rare in your part of the world. They didn't last long in the UK weather so I'm surprised there is anything left of of that one out there, but as you say, who in their right mind would want one at any price.

Can smell that 1970's vinyl from here. Looks like it's in mint condition though. But £25k?? Yeah. Right.

Or you could have this (with picnic tables) for a tenth of the price.

It does look mint, and to be fair they are asking 10k for the car and 30 for the coe.

It is certainly unique but ...... Nah

What is the COE? Is it some kind of licence that limits the number of cars registered in Singapore? How much is one usually?

Oh and the Allegro is in great condition but it's not got the original steering wheel so no thanks.

COE = Certificate of Entitlement.

It is a 10 year "entitlement" to have your car on the road for 10 years.

Every car has to have one, and they are banded, less than 1600 cc, more than 1600 cc, commercial, or open (which can be used for any or for buying a second 10 years on an old car)

COE's are released by the government based on an equation of number of cars scrapped or exported versus new roads built in order to control the number of cars on the road.

Currently there are no new roads being released so they are reducing the number of COE's by 10% per month against exports / scrapping

COE's probably average about $50k but have been up to $110k in the late 90's and down to $2 (yes two dollars) about 18 months ago. Currently an open catagory is about $70k which actually makes this Agro a bit of a bangernomics bargain by Singa rules!

Ohh we pay road tax every year on top of the COE - my 370Z is about GBP1,500/pa on top of COE and 130% import duty yikes

Certificate of Entitlement, it seems.
And cost varies, this one is valid for ten years
