This months Octane wipes the floor with the competition (What competition?). Front cover has a 6R4 on it and inside contains pretty much everything you'd want to read in a proper car magazine. I find myself constantly going back to Octane and although I also get sent Porsche Drivers Monthly sorry EVO it usually takes 10 minutes to skip through and leaves me with nothing! Maybe Im just getting old!

I agree. I'm thinking about ditching the Evo sub for Octane - it's so much more interesting.

I like Evo, but just getting a little bored of reading about fast superminis, and hearing about that fking Clio V6. I want to read about stuff that I can't really afford. And if affordable, make it interesting machinery. Not just a page about how a new chassis on a Twingo makes 'Dickie' Meaden moist. And if I read the phrase 'Monkey Harris' again, I'll scream.

Harry's pages are the only ones I really like reading, mainly because he focuses on the more interesting kit - the TVR, his new Lambo etc etc.

I was given an Octane subscription for Christmas so cancelled my EVO one, which I'd been meaning to do for ages.

Haven't received my first issue yet though. frown

I get Octane and Evo - they compliment eachother well, IMO.

I subscribe to Octane along with a couple of other magazines, Octane is by far the best in my opinion.

Evo seems to have dumbed down a little. I like Octane although I feel too poor to be reading it!

Cor blimey, it wasn't a year ago (ETA...maybe a bit longer) that everyone was complaining Evo focussed only on top end cars and there wasn't enough coverage of affordable ones.
Seem to remember David Vivian coming on here and posting.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Me too.
I am thinking (well I have been for ages!) about cancelling one, but I don't know which I'd cancel...

I think Evo still justifies it's coffee table space.

Will buy this months Octane too - cheers for the heads up

Indeed. So I've kept both! Evo for the new stuff, Octane for the older bits and pieces. I have interest in material that they each cover and I can justify a 8 quid a month on car mags.

I've been taking both mags for a few years now - Octane is highly enjoyable.

(Oh, and spotted in the Audi showroom by the A4 flyover, a Group B monster....)

Yeah, but if it's on the top floor they won't let you go and see it!

Unless it's in the "showroom" part it's off limits to wandering public. The top floor (or top two floors) are closed usually, and used for events/conferences etc.

For a long time I was thinking Octane. But last year I thought all their editions were excellent. I like the variety of stuff - watches, planes, history of Bakelite(!) that kind of thing. So really I ought to ditch Evo. I seldom read the whole thing, and some of it is annoying, but then Harry keeps buying my dream cars so I like to see what he's doing. If they keep up their big road trip type articles and let Richard Meaden write more, I'll keep getting it.

It's the cost of a pint per month. I now have every issue of Octane, and all but the first four issues of Evo - they are a nice little collection which I enjoy dipping into now and again.

That's true, but it annoys me that I don't read all of the Evo anymore.
I bought the Motorsport Christmas issue and really enjoyed that, so maybe it's time for a swap, but like you I have a huge collection of Evos (all of them!) and it seems a bit of a wrench to stop getting them.

Octane for me too, it's rare to read an issue I'd rate as only 'average'. I also get Classic Car and C&SC on occasion. Some good writing and better history of the brand/car in question, but far too many adverts imo.
