CLIO 1.4 16V TIMING BELT
Discussion
My 2004/53 Megane is every 5 years OR 72,000 miles (whichever is sooner). I would imagine the Clio is similar. Google is your friend here.
I've just had mine done actually at a local specialist. Does put a sizeable dent in your wallet, but pales in comparison to not getting the belt done and it goes leading to a very unwell engine.

when a friend had his cambelt changed on his 1999 clio 1.4 16v,he was advised to change the water-pump and the auxillary (alternator?)belt at the same time.
apparently,if the aux.belt goes,it can take the timing belt with it as well.
whether the above applies to younger cars such as yours i'm not sure.

I would say that definitely applies IMO.
I think on Renaults the cam belt has to come off to replace the water pump anyway (think labour charge for all this), and it is advisable to get it changed whilst the bloke is doing the belt as it saves a job. Think about it - the pump would be aged and, therefore, worn as time goes on.
Want to leave that potential time-bomb in your car or get it done when the cam belt stuff is done?

Yep the fan belt potentially can get wrapped up or chuck debris at the timing gear. apparently,if the aux.belt goes,it can take the timing belt with it as well.

Full cambelt kit, tensioners and ideally water pump then obviously the aux belt (if you are old school - fan belt) I don't know if the idler pulley is a problem on the 1.4 but can cause odd noises on the larger engined clios so might be worth researching if this is worth doing.
