Quick Clear Windscreens - How Good Are They?
Discussion
Exactly as it says I guess, how good are they?
Days like this morning for example where it's more of a thick frost than ice, I imagine you still have to get the frost off the outside yourself but the fogging of the windscreen caused by the blowers clears more quickly?
Or is it literally "Iced over windscreen, just push the button and sit and wait"?

I go out in the morning, start engine, turn on Quickclear, and by the time I've walked round the other 5 windows with the deicer (or watering can), the windscreen is clear. Even when the dash was reading -16C it clears both inside and outside in minutes.

This, and you don't have to wait very long either - they are called 'quick' for a reason.
I have read comments that the wires can be distracting at night, but I never had a problem in either my Orion, or Puma.

I think Paddy does mean this, some manufacturers do offer themLand Rover is one who does, as do Jag, Aston (I think) & Volvo, though you may pay extra on one of these, whereas a Fiesta may include it for "free"
Indeed it's the Land Rover one I have in mind - just curiosity really as its one thing I'm unable to test/see in action prior to the thing arriving. It sounds like it might be a better feature than I'd given it credit for.
I loved it on my Puma, it worked better than heated rear window for de-icing, also great for demisting. As for the finding the wires distracting, I never had a problem, but have read posts where people compare it to a greasy 'screen, try a search.
When IF order a new Freelander I would tick the heated screeen box.

You can buy heated front screens for many cars, but it's an aftermarket 'modification' which you'll need to wire up. You will of course pay full price for it though!
I'm another big fan of the heated screen. I'm looking at replacing the everyday shed at the moment... Top spec Avensis or a top spec Mondeo - the mondeo is edging in front simply because the it has the heated screen!

Our Focus has this, and it's great. I remember test driving a Puma years ago with the quickclear, and I couldn't stand it, due to constantly being distracted by the wavy lines. I'm not sure if they've improved the elements in them, or my eyes have changed sufficiently, but I rarely notice them now in the Focus.
I got told by a Ford salesman recently, (so take with a pinch of salt!) that Ford had a 25 year patent on the system, which is due to expire very soon, so other non-Ford brands may well be able to fit these soon.
